| MacBoot 1.0.5 | |
MacBoot changes the boot image shown at the beginning of the Jaguar startup to any icon. Requires: Mac OS X 10.2 or 10.3 |
In Jaguar, the usual happy mac icon was replaced with a big 128 x 128 gray Apple icon. It turned out that it was possible to hack a system file to change it to something more personal. At first, the proceedure was a bit difficult for the average user, but soon tools were created to aid in the process. MacBoot allows you to change the boot image to any 128 x 128 image, including those downloaded from ResExcellence.com and IconFactory.

MacBoot is now compatible with Mac OS 10.2.8 and probably with 10.3.0 Panther.
Installing an image is very simple. Just drag it to a MacBoot window and choose to install it from the toolbar. The color table will be automatically optimized to fit the icon you want to use. You will have to tell the program your administrator password, since it needs to modify a system file.
Please note that MacBoot is a non-supported program. It is possible that it could cause problems, since it edits vital system files. Please exercise caution with your data, and keep your backups ready. MacBoot will save a backup of the BootX file every time it starts.
